Using Natural
Processes to
Recycle Carbon
Producing sustainable gases & products
Adding value across energy and industrial sectors
We Recycle CO2
Aeriogen® Ltd is a knowledge driven company that specialises in the recycling of carbon using bio-chemical processes, in particular to produce e-methane.
Our mission is to contribute to the development of a global carbon management industry. In so doing we will not only help to limit climate change, but also deliver added value across existing and developing industrial sectors.
The Aeriogen Process
The patented Aeriogen® process uses carbon dioxide from industrial processes to make new carbon based materials. The simplest product to make is e-methane, which is a direct replacement for fossil natural gas.
The really clever bit is that we use microbes to do the hard work. Our mixed culture of microbes combines the carbon dioxide with hydrogen that can be made using renewable electricity and water.
In this way we harness natural processes that have existed in nature for billions of years to recycle carbon and offset the extraction of fossil resources.
Linking renewable electricity production to e-methane production (Power to Methane) brings benefits across energy and industrial sectors.
Add value to CO2 – we see carbon as a resource, not a liability
- Produce e-methane to offset extraction of fossil fuels
- Production of e-methane contributes to energy security
- Renewable energy can be readily stored and transported as a gas
- Product is immediately compatible with existing gas infrastructure
- Reduction of constraints on renewable power deployment and production
- Renewable generators can optimise the value of produced power based on market value

The Evolution of Aeriogen®
Aeriogen Ltd is a spin out of the University of South Wales. Since 2012 the research team has attracted funding from the European Regional Development Fund, the Welsh Government, IUK, BBSRC and BEIS.
Definition of early market potential was achieved through the ICURe program and the team was nominated as a finalist in the BBSRC Innovator of the Year competition. In 2023 the team were awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Enterprise Fellowship to establish Aeriogen Ltd. and bring the technology to market.
